Today I meet 2 black eyes with curled eye lashes… sitting on a round pinky face, about 1 meter high…
Today I was jumping around with a kid – and it felt amazing. I don’t know if there is a mother hidden in every single one of us but there’s an amazing energy that a happy small soul can pump into you.
Looking into this little soul’s eyes so many things came back to me… so vivid and so close – as if it were yesterday.
I remember perfectly the green colour of the bushes that formed a fence around the playground… there was a special plant that used to produce some small white bubbles that we would collect like crazy and then step on them. A funny squeek would come out of each bubble when smashed.
I remember the green tree – frail but so resistent to hold all of us trying to climb it – we were 3 me, Cristinutza and Faouzi… blood brothers as we liked to call eachother – all different but so close at heart.
Faouzi is a curly libanese with soft and beautiful skin. His hair is slightly blondish and has an incredible laugh. Cristinutza was this little thin girl – still is thin but a bit older now – with blondish hair also and frekles on her nose – she has a big smile that would light up a room, and there was me… so different lookinhg than I am now.. With about x killos more but same at spirit!
We were definitely the explorers team – to young to play with the others we would have our own little brotherhood and made sure to build up an adventure wherever we would go. I remember so well how we discovered a rose bush which became our secret hide out – all the three of us carried a huge rock and dropped it in the middle of it – that was our meeting table – we stole threads from our mums and with small sticks we built a door and windows, we gathered the roses and made them have a roof shape by pulling them together with the thread.
It was the perfect hideout – we felt like we were invisible under the rose roof and with our small door closed we were ready to conquer the world sitting at our stone meeting table.
Hide and seek, run as fast as you can, jumping on rocks, watermellon sculpting competition, the ducks and the hunters, “the countries”, fishing with yogurt cans, cycling, playing the salesman, gardner and building up war strategies to defend our hideout.. And not to mention – going to the store (alimentara) to buy chewing gum…All of that was planned there carefully under pink roses dropping gently above our blondish heads…
What happened to us? Faouzi is still in my birth city working on his family business, Cristinutza is running her own business in the capital city and we meet 3 months back in Canary Wharf when she came to see her parents and I am here…
What connects us still? An incredible childhood, an infinite imagination and a web of memories, one more beautiful than the other…
I can still hear it now (I was living in the ground floor flat) “Almaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa cand I get a glass of water?”, “Almaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa want to come with me to the store?”
